Stressed at school? How to overcome stress at school

Having been a student for a little over 80% of my entire life, I feel like I should share my experience of how to deal with the feeling of being stressed by the amount of workload or even the content of work assigned at school. Here are three tips on how to overcome stress at school.

  1. Have balance

Although you may already be feeling stressed with the amount of work you have to do in your studies,I have found that keeping yourself as busy as possible with school, social and health related activities is a surefire way to make sure you get things done. Knowing that you have a few things scheduled during the day  pushes you to use your time more efficiently and “forces” you to do the work when you need to do it rather when you have all the time in the world and therefore do it when you want to do it, which is ultimately, never.

  1. Tackle Tasks as they Arise

One important thing that I’ve learned recently is any hour is an hour and any place is as good as any. Confusing as that may sound, it actually simplifies things quite a bit. I used to be so set on doing schoolwork in a very specific setting or in my favourite designated notebook, all colour coordinated with my perfect pens, but all you need is you and your work, doesn’t matter when, where or how you do your work as long as you get it done. The magical weekend where you promise to do all the work you’ve been putting off and piling up, is never going to come. The time is now, got a spare five minutes? Get started on that assignment and you’ll be done before you know it!

  1. Don’t be Afraid to Ask Questions

However silly they may seem to you or may think you sound to everyone in class, others may benefit from your questions more than you can imagine and at least one more person was thinking the exact same thing but just didn’t bother asking. I’ll admit it can be daunting but I’ve only ever regretted the questions I never asked. Bonus point: asking question in class will help you remember the information better and you’ll definitely thank yourself for it when you get a question on it in the exam and you remember it best of all because it’s now associated with that time you put yourself out there and asked that seemingly unnecessary question in class.
