My degree course was in English Literature, from UCL. I believe it is my enthusiasm for education and dedication in all my pursuits which makes me an excellent tutor. Having lived across several continents, in the United Arab Emirates and Tunisia, I am a firm believer in the fact that learning should take place both in and beyond the classroom. This is part of the reason, beyond pure enjoyment, that I take full advantage of the culture available on our doorstep in London, taking the opportunity to visit the theatre and exhibitions as much as possible. I believe that a broader cultural education is vital for anyone wishing to impart not just knowledge but a love of learning on to another.
Teaching Experience
I have had several years of experience tutoring in a range of ages and subjects. For several years I worked with children at Key Stage 1 level developing their reading and basic arithmetic skills. I went on to provide preparation for Common Entrance Examination with pupils gaining entrance to schools such as Harrow and Radley. I have equally had experience tutoring Mathematics from Year 4 to Year 8 level. As an English Literature Undergraduate, this is where my expertise lies and am comfortable tutoring up to GCSE level.
I spent a year developing my career as a teacher at Cranleigh School Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates which provided me with a great insight into the education system. The School is closely tied with its founding school in the UK and follows the same curriculum. I was given the opportunity to teach lessons in both Mathematics and English up to Year 9 level. I was, therefore, able to gain a greater knowledge of teaching styles, examination syllabuses and examination technique which allowed me to develop my skills as a tutor. I was given the opportunity to teach lessons in both Mathematics and English up to Year 9 level.
