Description: Qualified Primary School Teacher Neha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education Studies. She is a Key Stage 2, 11+ English and Maths tutor in London. Here, we share a snippet of Neha’s tutor profile.

I am an enthusiastic and a well organised second-year primary school teacher committed to delivering excellence to ensure all pupils reach their highest potential. I hold a strong interest in being involved in and providing inclusive education to all children while flourishing enjoyment while learning. I have a passion for planning and teaching Mathematics and Guided Reading, where I provide challenges for all learners suited to their individual needs. I love to tutor and mentor students outside of school hours to help them reach their full potential.

Teaching Experience

Currently, I am a second-year teacher teaching 28 pupils in a Year 6 class in London. I work closely within a team to consistently deliver a high standard of curriculum while preparing children for the end of year examination. Some of my responsibilities include:
• Use Singapore Maths strategies to prepare and teach mastery level mathematical teaching using a range of tangible resources
• Observe, assess and record children’s progress and share knowledge with relevant practitioners and parents as required
• Provide pastoral care and support to all children, and a secure environment in which to learn
• Carried out Science book scrutiny while working closely with the Science Leader to highlight successful practice and generate specific areas to make learning more effective

Previously, I completed my NQT year in a school in West London. I taught a class of 30 Year, 5 students. Here I monitored student progression by using a range of assessment techniques such as summative and formative assessments and organised interventions for specific learners to help them gain additional support on areas of developments.

I planned for exciting opportunities for children which varied from carrying out practical experiments in Science to expressing their feelings using body language in English. I understand that, as every child is different, they will learn differently. Hence, I used a range of teaching strategies to facilitate children’s learning.

For example, within my lessons, I usually involved ‘talk time’ as it allows children to discuss ideas with their peers using speaking and listening. I often use whole class ‘show me’ techniques using whiteboards to assess children’s understanding and quickly deal with any misconceptions and as well moving children forward who show evidence of grasping the learning.

Lastly, having volunteered as a Teaching Assistant, I supported students suffering from learning difficulties such as Dyslexia and behavioural difficulties. I developed strategies that helped ease learning process e.g. using pastel colour background for text, images to solidify messages and pre-teach to familiarise learning to selected students. I participated in running an after-school homework club. Here students had the opportunity to complete their homework without any distractions.
