Description: In this blog article, Politics tutor Dr. Jon, shares his thoughts on why having an A Level is almost like having a superpower!
Having an A Level stays with you forever and is so much more than just a grade.
Of course, grades matter and a tutor can help you get the maximum grade possible.
Seeing the students I tutor get those great grades is what drives me to be the best tutor I can be.
But I also teach because I know just how brilliant it is to have the secret superpower of an A Level in Government and Politics.
It’s so much more than a grade.
Knowledge is Power
Once you’ve completed an A Level, I can guarantee that you will know more about that subject than most people you have ever met.
Most people do not study, to that level, the subjects you are devoting so much time to.
In the case of Government and Politics, we are a rare bunch.
In an age of misinformation and disinformation, we are superheroes.
Even if Government and Politics is your least favourite subject, or the grades aren’t quite what you expected, your knowledge of how the political system works will be vastly superior to most people out there in the real world.
That knowledge will stay with you and as you go through life you will add to it with each passing election, political scandal or earth-shattering event.
Politics makes the world go round and your knowledge can be used to good effect.
Whatever grade you’re expecting, whatever grade you get, be confident that you possess a fantastic level of knowledge.
Knowing The Facts
Knowing a great deal about politics means you can avoid disinformation and misinformation.
You can cut through the nonsense and crucially you can help those around you understand the world better.
With great power comes great responsibility, or words to that effect.
Of course, in politics, people will still disagree with you, no matter how much you know.
Politics is a battle for ideas in some respects and this superpower doesn’t guarantee popularity or kudos.
It just means you have a unique opportunity to explain and analyse events in ways others can’t.
It makes you useful to others as they try to navigate all the twists and turns at Westminster or the White House.
Are Your Skills Up to Scratch?
Studying politics can be tough.
I find that many people come to me needing help in writing essays, wanting to understand the specifications better or having trouble finding suitable examples to fit into essays.
It is all three of these skills that deliver great grades and I help students maximise their potential.
More than half the students I tutor get an A or A* in their exams.
With those exams fast approaching (I’m writing this in February 2025) there will be many students wondering if they can even improve their grades at this late stage.
My answer is Yes!
You really can still make a difference whatever stage you’re at.
I can help you reach your maximum.
To add to the more than half getting top grades, the vast majority of the students I tutor also improve on their predicted grade.
Final Note
Let me return though to my original thought: A Levels don’t leave you.
They stay a part of your life. People who know you might well turn to you for political analysis.
Be confident that you can explain things.
Be confident that you can help people.
Use your knowledge to do good.
Nobody is guaranteed a top grade but the one thing I can guarantee is that everyone I tutor leaves with a long-term superpower.
I’m ready to help you gain yours.
