Last month at Telios Tutors, we hosted a gathering of some of our private home tutors, students and parents where we came together to celebrate, acknowledge and appreciate all their hard work during this academic year. Success and results that we reap today are only because we collectively harvested the seeds that were sown at the very beginning. Parents have trusted the process, tutors and students have invested in time and energy, in passionate anticipation of the results we obtain today. Let’s take a moment to marvel at some of the achievements and results as well as reflect on the journey of some of our students who have engaged in private tutoring at Telios Tutors.
Results
This academic year, 100% of our students who went through the 11+ preparation process obtained entry to their first choice schools. Whilst results like these are a true testimony to their hard work and dedication, what we are most proud of is the impact that this has had on families in a much deeper way.
There is no doubt that this has shaped the future for many; independent and grammar schools that are growing in competition year by year are becoming more vigorous in their selection process. What Telios Tutors is actually most proud of and humbled by is the personal growth and development of the individuals; an inevitable by-product of all the energy, commitment and dedication throughout their lessons.
Some students are still very much at the infancy through the 11+ exams process, some are close to the finishing line at this very moment. Some students are waiting for their GCSE results next month.
Today, as this academic year draws to a close, we give recognition to some of our students through Telios Tutors this academic year. This list is by no means exhaustive and only scratches the surface and offers a small glimpse of the grand picture. Most of our students are having online tutoring using our interactive whiteboard and video conferencing that has proven to be incredibly effective.
Some of Our Students At a Glance
James M – James is one of our GCSE students and we are eagerly awaiting his results next month. His development in both Maths and English has been absolutely mindblowing. His teacher was so surprised at the fast transformation since engaging with private tutoring through Telios Tutors that he called his father to ask what he was doing differently. In our opinion, he is performing at the top 10% of the population in comparison to the national average.
From day 1 of engaging in private tutoring through Telios Tutors, the results came very quickly. James is an incredibly fast learner and has very high standards for himself, so working with a private tutor who could anticipate the road ahead, provide the ‘road’map’ and teach him the steps saved him a lot of time figuring it all out himself. Within a couple of hours into tutoring, he scored 100% in one of his Mathematics examinations. Prior to this, he was performing more at an ‘average’ level.
One of the biggest pivotal moments that made a huge difference was that in his tutoring lessons, something very important was highlighted – a big portion of criteria in his English examination was addressed; something that failed to be acknowledged at school which could have been detrimental to his results.
The importance and emphasis on this criteria enabled him to have a clear overview of the whole criteria and fulfil the standards necessary. What has been most evident is the personal growth in confidence as a result; this allowed great positioning in the exam. Having a firm belief is the first and most fundamental ingredient to ultimate success.
Joshua L – Joshua received scholarships and obtained 11+ entry to all the schools applied for. His first choice was Dulwich College and he will be boarding there from this September. His name was published in The Times, as an acknowledgement of his excellence in academia. We expect that he will be an asset to the school and in return, he will receive so much value from studying at one of London’s most reputable schools. Massive congratulations to you, Joshua!
Ava N – Ava is one of our GCSE students and we are eagerly awaiting the results next month. Ava has grown so much in confidence as a young writer, demonstrating real maturity and quality throughout. Despite having dyslexia, we never saw this as an obstacle or used this as an excuse to not be able to write elegantly or perform well in Maths. Ava really gained an excellent understanding of both Maths and English, far greater depth than ever before at school.
Joseph M – Joseph has been receiving regular Maths and English tutoring over the last couple of years with some of our private tutors including Charlie T and has most recently taken up French tuition in preparation for his upcoming GCSEs the following academic year. He appears to be making great progress and we would like to acknowledge his consistency and dedication in his lessons. His mother recently provided us with the following feedback regarding French tuition after we caught up with her:
“Frederique is great! Joseph is very happy to continue in September and Frederique will let us know her availability later in the summer. I hadn’t realised how difficult Joseph found it to speak and understand spoken French until he started this tutoring. It’s amazing how some pupils can just vanish in large classes!
As usual, you have provided not just a good tutor but a really interesting tutor – she is encouraging Joseph to visit the French Institute etc. Everyone we have met through Telios Tutors seems to be inspiring to my children.
Grace still benefits greatly from her online sessions with Charlie. We have retained his services because he is providing a reliable and trusted adult presence to further her academic and creative progress, and he can broaden her achievement and confidence beyond the school curriculum.”
We are truly humbled to receive such positive feedback from one of our long-term clients, who has been with us for over 3 years, I believe.
Daniel H – Daniel’s homework is always so beautifully crafted and presented; so diligently put together and it’s always a pleasure to read his stories. Daniel is one of the most committed, hard-working and well-behaved students, so teachable and coachable.
Ovie A – Ovie has demonstrated maturity and excellence in his writing; his teacher at school has noticed a development in the variety and quality of his vocabulary and he is progressing week by week. Ovie’s confidence is abundantly growing and it really shows throughout all of his lessons.
Jessica L – Jessica received a certificate of excellence in writing at school and has been one of the most consistent students in the lessons, ensuring that her homework is always completed and has demonstrated particular excellence in English comprehension.
Hayden L – Hayden is one of our youngest students but has superceded his peers in terms of academic level; he is performing significantly ahead, at times demonstrating levels that are up to 4 years ahead. We are so excited to see what the future brings for him.
Karissa H – Karissa is a bright young individual with an abundance of potential. Not only is she academically gifted, she is a young Karate kid and is currently going to Japan to participate in a karate tournament! What a genuine pleasure it is to know and work with a young girl who has so much energy and talent.
Daanyal N – Daanyal is a young and bright boy that follows through with his tasks, pays great attention in lessons. He is efficient, punctual and puts in so much effort. Daanyal is a great example for his peers and his development in both Maths and English is becoming more evident.
Adam N – Adam is one of our youngest students, who started at the age of 6 years old and having online tutoring. His reading level is significantly above the expectations compared to the national average, and this has been acknowledged by his teacher as school too.
Adnan S – Adnan is one of our GCSE students and is performing above the national average; a really fast learner and highly adaptable. A serious contender for his peers!
Adil S – Adil has responded so positively to his lessons, having developed significantly in both Maths and English. Academically, he is very gifted; we would like to work more on developing personal confidence and interaction that will really help build his character and allow him to put himself out there in social situations more freely.
Imran S – Imran is one of our youngest students, aged 6, who has been engaging with online tutoring. He has responded incredibly well; he is in the middle of completing his memory of times tables and is a wonderfully competent reader for his age compared to the national average.
Olimpia R – Olimpia is studying at an international school and is growing in confidence and competency in Maths. She is an energetic and enthusiastic young girl and we can’t wait to see what the future brings for her.
Maya G – Maya is also studying at an international school has been working with one of our tutors at home on a 1 to 1 basis. Bethany W and Maya have formed a very strong team and making incredible progress in Maths, that appears to have been acknowledged at school too.
Yusuf – Yusuf has been engaging in online Maths and English tutoring. He just recently received his SATs results and scored 104/105 in Maths – what an incredible achievement! We are so very proud of him.
Nadia – Nadia is a blossoming teenager who has been engaging in Maths tutoring online. She has responded excellently and developed so much academically since the very beginning. What we love about working with teenagers is not just about imparting superficial knowledge, but really acting like an older ‘brother’ or ‘sister’ figure, demonstrating empathy throughout a stage in their life where many transitions happen during adolescence.
Kail O – Kail has been receiving regular tutoring in Maths, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning with one of our tutors, Aletta V. Kail has learning difficulties but we never saw this as an obstacle to his learning potential and abilities. What we have found, is that working with a good tutor who has excellent academic credentials in conjunction with a patient and empathetic approach can produce very lasting results. Kail will be going to secondary school in the next academic year so we are collectively working together to see how we can really support him well during this crucial transitioning stage.
Shirley H – Shirley came to us very urgently and last-minute just before her upcoming end-of-year examinations. The first thing we asked to be shared was the syllabus and criteria of her examinations. We were able to go through a vigorous reverse-engineering process that allowed her to gain a real insight as to how the marks are awarded as well as show her the fastest mathematical techniques to answer exam-style questions that focused heavily on logical reasoning. We understood that with the limited time we were given, we really had to find the most effective and efficient way of teaching her in order to achieve exam success.
Tommaso P – Tommaso is studying at an international school and has been working with one of our tutors David R. They have an excellent professional working relationship and have achieved some exceptional results together that has been evident at school and within their lessons.
Giacomo P – Giacomo is studying at an international school and also working with one of our tutors David R. He achieved a placement at Sevenoaks School and is super excited to progress to the next level of education. With his enthusiasm and excellence in academia, he is a young powerhouse and we expect he will have an incredible experience at secondary school.
Julia C – Julia is currently a student at one of London’s most prestigious independent secondary schools. She has been working with a variety of tutors in various subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English to name a few. Initially, we arranged in-person tutoring during the first couple of years but later transitioned to online tutoring which she has responded incredibly well to.
Mercedes T – Mercedes has been one of our most long-term students, having known and worked with her for a good part of 6 years. We have really watched her grow in more ways than one, from a primary school student learning the times tables to now as a teenager preparing for GCSEs. She has been a genuine pleasure to work with; so coachable, respectful and professional.
Tobi A – Tobi is superceding the national average’s academic expectations and now we are focusing on developing his social skills that involve 1 to 1 personal interaction. In his lessons, a lot of emphasis is placed on developing strong interview skills and confidence. This is something that was initially very new and unusual for Tobi, but he is definitely gaining more clarity on not just what to say, but how to answer questions professionally and concisely.
Brian L – Brian is one of the most endearing young students we have had the pleasure of working with. So coachable, trainable and well-behaved. We found that he wasn’t being ‘stretched’ at school, coming from a class of about 30, it is very easy to get ‘lost’ and ‘left behind’. We catapulted his competency in both Maths and English through private tutoring, and he is currently preparing vigorously for the 11+ examinations in the near future.
Justin P – Justin gained entry to Haberdasher Askes and is due to start this September 2018. He worked very closely with us during the lead up to his interview at the school and is still receiving regular tuition on a weekly basis. We are so very proud of the dedication to the lessons he has demonstrated, and we have every bit of faith that he will flourish in his new school!
Jeremy P – Jeremy’s mother came to us after having her son at Kumon for several years which left him feeling uninspired and lacking in personal attention. He has been receiving regular private tuition on a weekly basis. Initially, he was struggling with keeping up with his homework, seeing it as a real chore, but since keeping him accountable and offering him some strong words of encouragement, he has been taking his lessons very seriously and has been producing some really high-quality work. Well done, Jeremy!
Cathleen L – Cathleen is a young writer with phenomenal talent. At aged 8, she consistently applies vocabulary that is impressive even for adults! So full of imagination; it’s a pleasure to read her stories and witness to such maturity in her writing at such an early stage. This is only the beginning!
