11+ Tutors
The 11+ covers a wide range of grammar-school, independent-school and school-specific assessments. English and mathematics are often central, while verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, creative writing, interviews or computerised tests may also form part of the process.

Preparation should be measured. Endless papers are not a substitute for teaching, and no child should be made to feel that one result defines their ability.
11+ Entry
A successful 11+ plan begins with the schools, not the practice books. Families should confirm registration dates, assessment formats, age rules and whether the school uses its own papers, a consortium test, the ISEB Pre-Tests or another provider.
The next step is to understand the child’s starting point. Some pupils need stronger English or mathematics foundations; others need reasoning practice, better pacing or greater confidence in formal assessment.
There is no single ideal preparation period. The right timing depends on the child, the schools and the gap between current performance and the expected standard. A measured plan should leave room for schoolwork, rest and normal family life.
Pre-Tests
Pre-tests are used by a number of independent senior schools to assess pupils before later stages of the admissions process. The ISEB Common Pre-Tests are online, adaptive assessments covering English, mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, and may be used for Year 7 entry or as an early stage of deferred Year 9 entry.
Preparation should build the knowledge and reasoning behind the questions while giving the pupil enough familiarity with the digital format to work calmly. A tutor can identify weaker areas, explain efficient methods and help the child review errors rather than simply completing repeated tests.
