English and Creative Writing Tutor Charlie

Description: Charlie has a Bachelors in English Literature and specialises in tutoring a wide range of students levels in English and Creative Writing. Here is an outline of his tutor profile.

About Me

I am an artistic, agreeable and highly empathetic person by nature. Though over time I’ve gained an edge in my working mentality that strives to keep these traits in balance with my adopted values. These include being articulate and communicative. I believe that in order for results to manifest, people need to talk, and they need to talk clearly and honestly. This mentality stems from my own experiences of studying Arts & Humanities. The teaching too easily fell into subjective and vague territory that didn’t honestly examine whether it was achieving results with the students. I want to do better.

Apart from that, I love playing and producing music. I’m learning to play the violin right now, which is I enjoy immensely. I like to read and play games with friends and family.

Teaching Experience

The bulk of my teaching experience comes from online tutoring with Telios Tutors. I have also led a Music Production Society at my university – for 3 years I led regular workshops both in person and online, teaching music production theory. It was a very intense and hugely enjoyable time. I still keep up with members even though I’ve left, doing one-to-one sessions when they need help.

I and my committee took the workshops very seriously. We had excellent preparation and structure and included external resources and encouraged student participation. This is where I found my passion in tutoring English and Creative Writing. This subject I am just as passionate about and far more qualified in.

Recently I’ve been working for Studiosity, an online network that offers 24/7 academic support. I read and offer comprehensive feedback on academic writing, highlighting in detail how students can improve the quality of their written communication. For a literary perfectionist, it’s very satisfying. The human reward (e.g. comments) is nice too, even though I don’t always get to see their faces.
