A recommendation considers academic expertise alongside communication, temperament, pace and practical suitability.

Academic qualifications are important, but they do not by themselves show whether someone can teach effectively or work appropriately with a particular child. Tutors considered for Telios assignments complete a structured recruitment and suitability process. Depending on the role and location, this includes:
Application and experience review
We review the tutor’s education, subject expertise, teaching or tutoring experience and employment history.
Identity, qualification and right-to-work checks
Relevant evidence is checked rather than accepted solely from a profile or CV.
Interview
The tutor is interviewed to explore their professional judgement, communication, experience and approach to working with learners and families.
Teaching demonstration or lesson tutorial
Tutors complete a teaching exercise so that Telios can assess how they explain ideas, question a student, structure a lesson, respond to difficulty and adapt their teaching methodology.
References
Appropriate professional references are obtained and reviewed.
Safer-recruitment checks
The appropriate DBS and barred-list information, or equivalent international background checks, are considered according to the proposed work.

Safeguarding is part of how Telios selects tutors, arranges tuition, manages communication and responds when something does not feel right.
Telios has designated safeguarding leadership and a safer-recruitment process that includes the checks relevant to the proposed work, such as identity, qualifications, references and the appropriate DBS or equivalent background check. A background check is one part of safeguarding; it does not replace professional judgement, clear boundaries or ongoing oversight.
Families and tutors are expected to use agreed communication routes and suitable learning environments. Concerns connected with Telios tuition are recorded and referred to an authorised safeguarding lead. In an emergency, families should contact the emergency services or the relevant local authority without delay.

From first enquiry to the first lesson — clear steps, considered matching, and arrangements you can trust.
Begin with a short conversation or guided website enquiry. You do not need to know which tutor, school or service is right before contacting Telios. We will ask about the learner, the present situation, the desired outcome, the timetable and any practical requirements.
The original request is not always the complete picture. A student asking for more revision may need stronger subject foundations. A family seeking a particular school may need to reconsider the timing or admissions route. A child described as lacking confidence may be struggling with the pace or style of teaching. We review the information and identify the questions that should be resolved before recommending a next step.
For tuition, we consider subject expertise, educational stage, teaching experience, communication style, temperament, location, availability and the learner’s preferred way of working. For education consultancy, we define the scope before beginning research or admissions work.
Families receive a reasoned recommendation rather than an unfiltered list. We explain why the tutor or proposed service may suit the requirement, together with the format, availability, fee and practical arrangements. The family can ask questions before deciding whether to proceed.
Once the details have been agreed, the introduction, timetable, payment arrangements and relevant expectations are confirmed. The tutor begins with a clearer understanding of the learner and the purpose of the tuition rather than approaching the first lesson without context.
