Description: Sophia is a Maths, English and Chemistry tutor who is a swimming coach and holds a degree in Biochemistry. Here is a snippet of her tutor profile.
I helped out at a primary school for a year to assist teaching a the topic that a specific class were learning that day, enabling more time to be focused on each pupil as responsibilities could be shared between the class teacher and myself. I enjoyed supporting the community, interacting with the pupils and following their success throughout the year.
I also volunteered to coach children swimming, creating innovative delivery directed towards improving their technique and competency in the water. I would teach two groups of children a week, tailoring my style of teaching for the age group to yield the best results.
I am an enthusiastic, ambitious and driven individual who enjoys contributing to the community through assisting young children exceed their personal goals and volunteering with elderly people.
As a tutor I am delighted to aid students to fulfil their potential by teaching them subjects alongside tips and tricks that they can apply across all fields of learning to achieve the most by working efficiently and utilising time in the sessions given.
I am an undergraduate studying Biochemistry at the University of Leeds. Having recently come out of sixth form and being a student, I have invaluable study tips and styles of learning that will yield the best results in the most efficient time.
Being a student means that my mind is in a constant learning state and I can relay the best strategy that I use in order to ensure all my students can attain the best grades possible.
I have experience in working with children and think that it is imperative to understand that different people have different ways of learning, meaning I can tailor each lesson to the pupil in order to get the most out of the session and to ensure progress.
I can break down the content into easily digestible information so that there is a solid foundation of understanding and progression is maximised. I tutor Chemistry up to A level, Maths and Biology up to GCSE level and also English at 11+/common entrance level.
I have a passion for science and think in a logical way, meaning I approach lessons in a methodical and informed manner. I enjoy thinking in a scientific way, always questioning the reason behind systems, which means that I gauge a real understanding of topics and can relay them in a coherent way.
A key factor in education is bridging the gap between learning and understanding, as the understanding means that knowledge can then be applied in an adaptable manner and can be used to answer harder questions.
I have a desire to apply my love for science and maths through tutoring. I enjoy making lessons fun by putting theories learned into perspective and using fun facts/case studies that make the lessons more engaging.
I think it is important to create a learning environment where the student always feels comfortable to ask questions and move at their own pace – a crucial part of one-to-one tutoring.
Aside from academics, I enjoy playing hockey and am a member of my hockey society at university. I also relish in reading about pharmaceutical companies and current industry news.
