Every month, we honour a particular tutor who has demonstrated excellence through their work with their students.
Due to popular demand, Sevda has now reached her maximum student capacity for the time being as she focuses on serving her current students at the highest level.
Here’s a Q&A we did with Sevda to give us an insight to her experience working as a private 1 to 1 tutor.
What is your favourite thing about tutoring young people?
My favourite part of teaching is being able to see students achieve their goals – whether it be academic or personal. I love watching students grow in confidence and really begin to trust their abilities. I also think it’s important to mention that I too have learnt so much from all my amazing students!
Give us some examples of some academic and personal developments you’ve witnessed as a tutor with your students?
Lots of my students have often started out lacking in confidence and self-belief but while working alongside them I’ve managed to work with them to help them unlock their true academic potential.
Furthermore, young children often find learning mundane, however, I’ve managed to help some students see the real fun in education. By tailoring my lessons to each unique child I’ve helped students flourish in areas which they previously struggled in.
How do you ensure children are constantly making progress?
Learning doesn’t stop after the lessons over, I make sure I set lots of homework addressing weak points which I’ve observed in lessons.
Every child I teach also receives a weekly spelling test each and every week, this ensures that children are always on top of their work and have something to stimulate their minds throughout the week. Also, I do not hesitate to set more homework if I believe more work is required.
What do you think parents appreciate about you the most?
I think parents appreciate the fact that I’m always on-the-ball. I always make extra time for questions and homework help ensuring that parents feel like they are equally valued and listened to.
This is really pivotal for me; the parents are just as important as the students so it’s vital they are on board with everything I teach. I always give feedback after every lesson and after homework is completed by students so that parents know what’s going on at all times.
What characteristics do you possess that make you a good tutor?
I’m a very bubbly, caring and patient person. All these factors ensure that my students always feel comfortable enough to ask questions and for advice – which I’m always open to!
I have worked with several children who have initially been very introverted but with my approach they’ve all evolved into their own bubbly personalities! This approach has really worked for all my students so far, I believe that learning should always be done in a nurturing manner as it helps them flourish successfully in confidence both academically and personally.
Thank you, Sevda. It’s an honour to work alongside you!
