Teaching Experience
My name is Gemma I have taught English as a Foreign/Second Language for 19 years. My experience ranges from teaching Early Years to adults. I have had students for General English to IELTS, TOEFL and other exam classes to literacy courses.
During my many years of teaching, I have worked in Southeast and East Asia, New Zealand and Australia, the Middle East and the UK.
I have just returned to the UK after eight years in Qatar, where I worked for four years with the British Council as a teacher, trainer, line manager and EDI team member.
Working Abroad
My teaching abroad included delivering General English courses for young learners and adults. This included from beginner to advanced levels. I have taught IELTS courses, Business English, as well as literacy skills.
In addition, I furthered my teaching through training courses and researching and presenting at conferences in Qatar and Dubai. I was also an active member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team for British Council Qatar, promoting and bettering the staff, students and the publics’ awareness on various issues.
Training
Prior to moving to Qatar, I was a teacher trainer in the UK. Part of my role was to deliver introductory EFL/ESL teacher training courses for people who wanted to travel and teach.
I was the key point for participants on delivering essential teaching practices. Previously I reviewed the fundamentals of the English language, observing and providing feedback on lessons, as well as writing completion reports.
I also worked as the Assistant Director of Studies at a language school in the UK, which involved organising timetables, testing new students, arranging and running training sessions for teachers, as well as teaching.
About Me
I really enjoy travelling and experiencing different environments, cultures and people. There is so much various countries have to offer and I have been fortunate to explore nearly 40 of them through work and holidays. I also enjoy staying healthy, so I do yoga, go for walks and do whatever I can outside. I like to switch off by reading a good book or watching an interesting film.
