Description: Shayda is one of our incredible academic tutors in Science, Maths and English. She has a degree in Biochemistry and is pursuing postgraduate studies at UCL, one of UK’s top universities. Here’s a short snippet of her tutor profile.
I have a strong passion for biology, and studying Biomedical sciences at undergraduate level helped solidify this. Furthermore, I am an inquisitive individual and have a drive to constantly learn; my side passions are Egyptology and art (clay modelling). I also regularly read about current affairs and devise my own opinions on matters. I have a huge passion for education, in particular in Science and my tutorials are tailored around inspiring my students to develop a strong love for the subject despite it being intimidating to many initially.
My current postgraduate studies are in MSc Global Health and Development which draws on both my medical knowledge, scientific knowledge as well as geography, history, politics and much more, it enables me to access a career in which I can help reform current policies and develop strategies to overcome current health problems we face today, with the end goal being working for the World Health Organisation. M
I am also bilingual Farsi and English (English being my first language) so I can help with any children of this heritage that require extra help at school. Furthermore, I am extremely passionate about being a role model for other students. I myself lacked the correct support network but have pushed to be in the position I am in today, however I found a tutor that was beyond exceptional which helped me believe in myself. This is why I am determined to help other students achieve their goals and be a supportive role model for them to enable them reach their maximum potential.
I have taught for a number of years both for underachieving pupils and also my own private tuition. I generally have focused on the three sciences in detail but I am also very capable of teaching English and Mathematics. In many cases I have volunteered to teach – my intentions to genuinely help students is something I do from the heart.
I have managed to help shape the future of my students with a good track record of helping them access sufficient grades to qualify for A-Level selection and also entry at university level as well as GCSEs. However, I am also confident with working with younger students and have also taught GCSE level. Additionally, I am able to help with common entrance examinations such as 7+ and 11+ and effectively adapt my way of teaching to suit all students regardless of capability and age.
I have:
- Taught students creative writing, grammar and skills required for GCSE/A level English Language and Literature
- Provided excellent mathematics tuition particularly algebra and arithmetic to a high level, but I am also able to adapt my approach for teaching younger students since I used to help as a marker at Kumon (highly focused on arithmetic).
- Spent time abroad as an English teacher for under 10s in Borneo (1 month) in Summer 2016. I was able to teach effectively even with a language barrier!
- I obtained full marks in my A-level English Language (requested as an exemplar)
- Studied A-level Mathematics and English Language
- Taught and edified younger children about self-confidence and deliver motivational speeches at local schools in order to be a positive role model for future generations.
