Description: Kane has a First Class (Hons.) Bachelor of Arts Degree in Modern Languages & Cultures from The University of Durham and attended a world-class theatre school. Here his tutor profile.
I spent my formative years in the Ribble Valley (Lancs.), making the most of the opportunities offered to me and developing both my academic and extra-curricular skills to their fullest. In addition to being a dedicated and passionate student, receiving 9 A*s at GCSE and 4A* at A-Level, I pursued theatrical interests that allowed me to gain experience that I would otherwise have been neglected, most notably being nominated for two consecutive IDTA International Theatre Awards.
These dual passions followed me to Durham University, which gave me the opportunity to simultaneously pursue academic and extra-curricular passions in a particularly unique manner. Having completed my course of study, I can count among my accolades a strong academic record, receiving a First Class (Hons.) Bachelor of Arts Degree in Modern Languages & Cultures, and a mark of 84 on my dissertation; also myriad charitable contributions and accomplishments in student theatre.
Having capitalised upon my degree course’s opportunity for a Year Abroad, I was able to attend a world-class theatre school in Barcelona, as well as become deeply involved with Durham Student Theatre (DST) in various capacities. Most notably, I am both the incumbent Publicity Officer & Resources and Technical Officer for Durham University Light Opera Group (DULOG), the U.K. largest student theatre group welcoming audiences of almost 3000 to their annual productions at the Gala Theatre, and producing four full-scale musicals per academic year.
I was also awarded Best Sound Design, for my original writing piece selected and produced as part of Durham Drama Festival 2020, ‘He Never Married’. This counts among just one of my directorial credits, having also successfully interviewed for Director & Choreographer of DULOG’s 2020 Summer Show ‘Gypsy’ at the Gala Theatre, Durham. I am currently undertaking a Masters Qualification at one of the world’s leading theatre schools, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, London, where I intend to further meld these two passions.
Having spent several years as a dance teacher and teaching assistant, I built on my fundamental teaching skills in working as an independent ESL teacher during my time abroad in Barcelona as part of my B.A. Modern Languages & Cultures at the University of Durham, working with private clients in a range of professions. Since then, I have tutored and coached individual clients in a variety of disciplines, ranging from industry-led vocal coaching, individual languages, and academics.
