Description: Joseph is a graduate from St George’s University of London with a degree in Biomedical Science (BSc) with Clinical Bioscience and pursuing towards a second degree in Medicine (MBBS). Here’s a snippet of his tutor profile.
I am an individual who in puts in hard work and dedication to achieve my goals and dreams. I have been able to refine my study techniques as well as develop professionally as a private tutor.
Through one of my volunteering experiences in a charity, I have had the honour of being able to teach primary school children from various ages and with different educational needs about different aspects of healthcare.
Teaching children was a rewarding and inspiring experience, but it also outlined to me that each person has different ways of learning and that teaching in an understandable and fun manner is the optimum way of helping students enjoy learning.
I have also volunteered at a hospice which specialized in palliative care; this experience opened my eyes to the needs of people, which has given me the desire to try and help students succeed and achieve their dreams.
It has also helped me develop my communication skills and empathy skills allowing me to become an effective communicator, which I think will be invaluable in tutoring.
I am a very compassionate, patient and motivated person who always strives for success and I hope my passion for teaching will encourage and inspire students to also strive for success to pursue their dreams.
I am aware that different students prefer different ways of learning; I am very flexible and open to change my teaching style to meet the needs of any student. I also strongly believe in the phrase, “practice makes perfect”, and believe that repetition is the best way to consolidate learning.
Therefore, I aim to implement this principle by setting homework regularly and by providing constructive criticism in order to reinforce what has been taught in the lesson. I aim to provide open, fun and interactive lessons and encourage students to ask any questions about anything they do not understand.
I extensively cover the relevant syllabuses and specifications over the duration of the classes to ensure there are no gaps in student knowledge with aim of building confidence whilst ensuring students are not overwhelmed or pressured.
Exam technique is also incredibly important, which is why I believe that helping students work through past papers will allow them to learn good exam disciplines and apply them in real life situations to succeed in their exams.
Having attended a grammar school, I have extensive knowledge of 11+ entrance exams and am happy to provide guidance and advice in how to succeed the 11+ exams. I am also willing to offer advice on applying to medical universities, such as how to tackle the UCAT and writing effective personal statements.
I am able to help with any queries about studying in university and life as a student as well as sharing tips on how to study and revise effectively for exams. I believe that developing you own personalised revision techniques is key to succeeding in exams and I am eager to help students find their own styles of learning.
