Description: Christy is a graduate with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science with Pharmacology & Physiology, pursuing a second degree in Medicine (MBChB) and has a desire for continuous academic development that has fuelled her passion for teaching. Here’s a snippet of her tutor profile.
To successfully approach my role as a tutor, I thoroughly prepare lessons in accordance with each exam board and will be reviewing them against its specifications, to ensure the teaching is relevant. By assessing each student’s unique learning style, I will be able to tailor the subject material being delivered and recommend effective learning methods.
I will use my ability to simplify and concisely explain fundamental theories and concepts, particularly to target pinpointed weakness areas. By creating an educational and personal relationship with each student, not only will I be answering to inquiries, but also be stimulating discussions in order to achieve active engagement from them.
Alongside content delivery, I incorporate effective revision strategies and exam techniques such as dissecting exam questions. Furthermore, by monitoring student progress, I aim to eliminate any knowledge gaps and consolidate key ideas with the aid of additional reference sources. Above all, I hope to instil a strong sense of confidence in my students for them to develop a positive mindset with which they can reach their utmost potential.
Teaching Experience
I have volunteered as a Sunday School teacher for over 5 years; I can see the rewards of teaching and inspiring young minds aged between 3 and 16. I opted to specialise in Key Stages 1 and 2 as I feel it is demanding however immensely fulfilling to work with children at this vital formative period in their educational development.
As an AS-level Biology and Chemistry mentor, I provided additional learning support to students who were struggling to achieve their target grades. By adapting the pace and teaching method to the learner, I was able to clarify their doubts and offer constructive feedback for future assessments. Furthermore, through appropriate documentation, I was able to successfully keep a track of each student’s academic performance over time.
At University, through society-organised workshops, I was able to impart unique strategies for admissions test such as UCAT for optimal results.
