Description: Mandarin Chinese and TEFL tutor Sharon’s tutor profile.
I am a natural born teacher and have lots of experience. I confess that when I was young I would spend time in my room teaching an imaginary class using my window as a blackboard. I even bought my own chalk and would practice handwriting. I am frequently thinking about how I would teach a certain aspect of language in the best way possible to help my students.
I am very passionate about Chinese Mandarin. Through over 20 years of studying I can see clearly the fascinating logic of how this language is put together. I have spent a great deal of time working out the grammar of Mandarin along with perfecting pronunciation. As Chinese is a tonal language, its very important to know how to pronounce words correctly, otherwise one could call their mum a horse – certainly not a mistake anyone wants to make 🙂
In my lessons I focus on pronunciation and grammar, meaning the learner can be easily understood. I like to make lessons fun and interesting because I feel no matter what a persons age, we all like to smile and laugh. I have always had the philosophy that if the student is enjoying a class they will more likely want to continue learning.
I have had personal experience of learning this language and the challenges that come with it putting me in a unique position to help other learners. I can give handy tips and teach in a way that works, helping you as a student to remember what you are learning.
I have had over 15 years of experience teaching Mandarin. I have taught individuals, family groups and classes. I adapt lessons to the individual ensuring the student gets the greatest benefit.
The classes and family groups had students of different ages and abilities which meant I had to adapt each class to ensure everyone benefited. I believe every student is unique and has their own way of learning so once I know the student and ‘how they work’, I can tailor make each lesson.
I absolutely love China. It’s an amazing place to see and would highly recommend it. The people there are so kind and always happy to help.
I also teach English as a foreign language. I have had particular experience teaching children in this area. Again I like to make classes fun ensuring the learner enjoys attending the class. English is a tough language so its important to help the student learn in a way that they benefit.
As a person, I am patient and kind, fun loving and happy. I have lots of interests which include writing poetry, cake decorating and chocolate – I am most definitely a chocoholic.
I have admiration for anyone who wants to learn a new language or improve in that language and I want to make that process as easy as possible. I really look forward to working with you in your quest to learn something new.
