About Me
Hello, my name is Sophia! I am a London-based Oxford graduate tutor with over 400 hours of experience in in-person and online tuition.
I’m looking to help students of all ages with the study of Latin and French.
My working hours are highly flexible and I would be willing to approach the subjects from whichever angle my students prefer.
Whether a student wants to practise his/her spoken French, learn Latin grammar only or simply needs help understanding the syllabus.
Teaching Experience
Over the past three and a half years I have provided tuition for both advanced learners and those struggling with understanding.
This can sometimes be on account of learning disabilities such as dyslexia and processing disorders.
Additionally, I have had the opportunity to tutor native French speakers in grammar and some students’ Latin far beyond their year group.
I successfully brought one Year 8 student’s attainment up from no Latin to Year 11-level Latin in the course of a year.
My teaching has involved a range of ages in the UK studying at Key Stage 3, Common Entrance, 13+, GCSE and A Level.
What I’ve doubtlessly enjoyed the most is being able to get students to identify the patterns that unite all languages.
I’ve never had a student – even the most unwilling – whom I haven’t managed to enlighten and entertain.
My Teaching Methods
All my homework is tailor-made after each lesson for every student.
I take into consideration the student’s progress, strengths and weaknesses.
This is not the “one size fits all” approach too common in school; it determines every student’s work on the basis of their experience.
I keep tabs on what and how my students study and ensure their pace and progress fit their needs.
In addition to French, I speak fluent Russian, intermediate-level Italian and some German.
My knowledge of multiple languages allows me to draw parallels between them for my students: something they find both appealing and relatable.
I have also taught foreign students abroad the IB French curriculum online.
