I have been a full-time private tutor since graduating from the University of Oxford in 2015 (BA Hons and MA 2.i). The focus of my tuition has been on English literature and language, history and geography at GCSE and A Level and supporting students making applications to the University of Oxford for history.
I also tutored part-time whist at university and school, in addition to completing residential tutoring placements in Moscow, Dubai, New Zealand, Nepal and the UK.
I achieved strong academic results at school, achieving a 97.85% average at A Level (in history, geography, philosophy and ethics and art), in addition to being Head of School, a Queen’s Scholar (awarded to students with the highest GCSE results), an Art Scholar, being awarded the subject prizes for history, geography, philosophy and ethics and art at senior and prep level, and being awarded an Outstanding Contribution to School Life Prize, being involved in art, sport, music, drama and outdoor activities.
I therefore understand the breadth and intensity of the British academic system, and how to support students to reach their full potential within it.
Here are some examples of my teaching experience:
English Literature and Language GCSE: tutored across all major UK exam boards (AQA, Edexcel and OCR) and international exam boards (Cambridge and Edexcel); tutored early-modern (including Shakespeare), 18th,19th, 20th and 21st century prose, poetry and drama.
History and Geography GCSE, AS and A Level: tutored across all major UK exam boards (AQA, Edexcel and OCR) and international exam boards (Cambridge and Edexcel); tutored all the core topics for geography (physical and human) and many of the core history topics. Achieved almost 100% in both subjects at A Level.
Art (Textiles) GCSE, AS and A Level: assisted students with coursework books and final pieces, offering recommendations for improvement and skills sessions. Achieved 98% at GCSE and 100% at AS Level.
Oxford University history applications: worked with students for the HAT test, their submitted essay and personal statements, and interview preparation. Had 2 successful applicants out of 3 to date. First person from my school to get into Oxford for history in the school’s memory.
Residential Tutoring Placements as an international tutor:
Moscow (2018): spent 10 weeks living with a family tutoring their children, aged 8 and 9 EFL through games, day-to-day activities and structured lessons.
New Zealand (2017-2018): spent 10 weeks living with a family tutoring their children, aged 9 and 12, English, history, geography, study skills and organising their timetable and excursions.
Dubai (2017): spent 9 weeks working with students between the ages of 8 to 22 tutoring EFL, English, history, geography and Oxbridge applications. Worked with students between one hour and 10 hours per week.
Nepal (2012): spent 6 weeks teaching EFL, science, maths, geography and history to classes of circa 20 students between the ages of 3 and 18. Lived in the school and assisted the children with their homework in the evenings.
UK (2011): spent 2 weeks working as a teaching assistant at a school in Suffolk, working with Year 1 and 2 students to improve their reading and writing. Assisted with residential duties in the evenings and attending school trips.
I have also volunteered for various educational children’s charities, including: Hopes and Homes for Children, School’s Plus, Room to Read, Hindu-VidyaPeeth and SOS Children’s Villages.
