How To Achieve Your Dream Grades

Description: In this article, Geography and Maths tutor Aryan, shares his tips on how to achieve your dream grades at school.

Studying for exams or assignments is quite tricky when you don’t have an excellent framework to work around or a good schedule to stick to, so here are my best tips for smashing your exams and achieving your goals!

Make a Weekly Plan

It’s so easy to just work on what you feel like.

But when you sit down at the start of every week and decide what your plan will be, you don’t need to spend so much time every day deciding what to work on.

You can remove that burden from your mind and just go ahead with the work you need to get done! Decide what to do, but only plan as far
ahead as you can anticipate – a week at a time is best.

Don’t Overcrowd Your Schedule

When making your schedule and deciding what to work on, set smaller and more attainable goals at the beginning as you gain momentum.

Start with smaller tasks that may not take as long, but will get the ball rolling.

You want to be satisfied at the end of the day knowing you’ve worked to your schedule, but if you cram in too much into each day, you might be disappointed if you don’t get everything done.

Keeping your mental health up and studying can be tricky, but managing your time nicely and reducing stress for yourself can help

keep a balance in your life during exam season.

So try to set achievable goals for each day. So that might mean covering a few topics a day or doing one past paper per day, whatever works for you!

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

When you revise, you go over the content that you’ve learned in lessons so you can remember it for your exams

.
But if you only cover it a few times, then it’s unlikely you’ll be able to recall it in your exam.

So to help with this, try and repeat the same topics again after a set number of days or a week (and repeat this) for instance, so the content is fresh for you and to ensure you can recall it to a good enough standard when asked.

Practice Makes Perfect

You want to be able to answer any question the exam throws at you, so trying different styles, lengths and wordings of questions should expand your ability to do so.

Any resources or questions you can find, whether they are past paper questions, specimen questions or textbook questions.

Try as many as you can and you’ll be able to see the results in no time in how you answer your questions and how many types of problems you can solve. It works no matter the subject.

This structure helped me get 4 A*’s in A level and get me into the university of my dreams, where I still implement this structure and achieve highly in exams. It relies on forming good revision habits and a disciplined workflow.

Remember, if you’re consistent in revising this framework, the grades of your dreams are within reach!
