Exams: Does Your Child Have THESE Habits?

Description: In this article, we discuss some of the habits children may have which prevent them from achieving their full potential during exams.

Children can often suffer from poor habits that prevent them from achieving their highest potential.

Now exams are around the corner, it is important to recognise these symptoms and fix them as soon as possible

Lack of discipline

Reason: Lack of consistency in conditioning self-belief.

Remedy: Set exciting and attainable goals. This will help your child raise their confidence levels when they achieve small milestones.

Working towards something attainable can encourage positivity and self-belief and keep them excited about learning.

Tip: A reward system can also help with motivation and help with productivity.

Your child will begin to associate pleasure with hard work and discipline and be more likely to try harder next time.

Boredom

Reason: Social media addiction has made school work seem boring.

Remedy: To combat the temptation of social media, remove tablets, phones and moderate the time spent on these devices.

Lack of Productivity

Reason: Lack of direction and motivation. Unmotivated children may have a poor sense of competence and will tend to do the bare minimum.

Remedy: Create a timetable and use a timer.

Tip: Measure and track results on previous exam papers regularly can show a child how they are improving and encourage them to improve on the next paper.

Lack of confidence

Reason: This can stem from previous failures and criticism.

Remedy: Using positive reinforcement will boost a child’s confidence. If they do something well or work hard on something, make sure to give them adequate praise.
