Description: Jessica is an experienced tutor in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Dance up to GCSE level and Biology up to A-level. She has a BA at London Contemporary Dance School and is undertaking a Level 5 198hr TEFL course. Previously, she attended The Latymer School. Here’s a snippet of her tutor profile.
I have taught a wide range of ages from children to adults and cater my classes to meet the age groups’ needs. I also have several years’ experience teaching children and young adults with Autism, Dyslexia and ADHD. I think it’s important for students to have stability in their learning, so I aim to work on a longer-term basis and help students develop at their own pace.
Increase my student’s confidence is a very important aim for me and watching them tackle more challenging questions or notice their own improvement is a highlight of my time as a tutor. I think the best way to teach is to create an enjoyable and fun atmosphere so that students are comfortable and feel able to have a go, make a guess and learn.
I encourage my students to ask questions and to consolidate information throughout our sessions. I value feedback from my students and encourage them to tell me what went well, what could have been better and what they may need to revisit. I regularly give overviews of what we have been studying to keep our lessons in context and to remind students of knowledge that they have gained.
Each class will focus on a particular topic and will follow an appropriate order so that the syllabus and specification are covered completely. For students preparing for exams I try to begin exam practise as soon as possible so that students implement exam technique right from the start and can revise accordingly.
A part of my classes will always involve finding techniques and methods for individual students to use in their academic studies. Everyone learns in a different way and as such the methods used by and with each student may differ.
My students leave my classes with a bank of ideas to work with when tackling something more challenging so that they tackle that thing with confidence. I also have worked with students looking to revise and find effective ways of memorising information.
