Hi, my name is Josh and I specialise in tutoring Ancient History and Classics up to university level.
I understand the anxieties that studying can bring for students, particularly when working toward exams and assessments.
I aim to help students build a deep interest in their studies. Simply by developing their critical thinking skills and taking a supportive, friendly and enthusiastic approach.
It is such a fascinating discipline. I believe that with the right guidance, support and hard work, every student can reach their full potential.
Historical Expertise
During my time as a Postgraduate Researcher at the University of Leicester, I attained highly competitive Midlands 4-Cities research funding for my research project surrounding citizen status in the archaic and classical Greek world.
My knowledge of Classical Studies and Ancient History is further exemplified by attaining a Distinction in my Master’s Degree in The Classical Mediterranean.
Throughout my life, I have had a deep interest in travel, global affairs and political events. Particularly by understanding these through a historically-informed lens.
I have studied history with depth and breadth, gaining not only an expansive knowledge of Ancient History and its related disciplines but also a critical eye and keen editing skills.
Academic Experience
I have published academic work in this discipline, including my forthcoming chapter ‘Warriors and Waifus: Community responses to historical accuracy and the representation of women in Total War: Three Kingdoms.’ with de Gruyter Press, and my 2018 peer-reviewed journal article, “‘Athenian ‘amateurs’? Greek war preparation and the Classical Athenian polis (479-323 BCE)” in Rosetta Journal.
I was also the co-coordinator for the University of Leicester Archaeology and Ancient History Departmental Wednesday Seminar programme between 2019-2021.
Throughout this time I learned from leading experts in the field about a wide array of topics within Ancient History and Archaeology.
