Description: Experienced online private tutor, Ramez, specialises in GCSE/A Level Science and Maths. Here is an outline of his tutor profile.
About Me
As for my 6 years of experience in tutoring, coaching, and guiding students and colleagues from a wider variety of backgrounds and abilities, I have understood the core principle that underlies effective tutoring.
The fact that different students have different approaches to learning.
Essentially, there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Over the years, during school and my experience in medical school, I have been adapting my teaching style according to the preference of my students/colleagues.
This has been seen especially in the past 2 years when I have had to adapt my tutoring style more towards online tuition.
Therefore, I have developed the ability to ensure that my students are just as engaged during our online sessions as they would be during our face-to-face sessions.
Engagement is really important because it encourages you to look forward to our tuition sessions.
It consequently, would give you further motivation to work more consistently throughout the year.
As consistency is a key principle in scoring higher grades, it can be seen that it would help you develop academically.
Overall, my goal as a Tutor is to help bridge the gap between your current grade and an A*/A.
My Tutoring Style
I tend to use exam questions at the start of the session.
This is to see your current understanding of the topic and to see where the gaps in knowledge are.
Learning content in order to fill in the missing gaps in knowledge, whilst linking it to the information which you already understand.
This would hope to ensure you are able to put the entire puzzle together and see how the different aspects of the topic link together.
I am also very happy to answer any questions you have along the way- this is really important to me because I strive to make the sessions as interactive as possible!
Exam-specific advice (such as commonly asked questions, and common Definitions which may come up).
This would help you revise more efficiently when revisiting this topic because you would know which Learning points you can focus more on.
This makes you more ready for Exams as you will be covering the high-yield content whilst also not forgetting the low-yield content.
More Exam questions once all Learning points of the topic have been covered.
We can also revisit the Exam questions done at the start of the session in order to see the progress you have made.
By the end of the session, it is essential to me as a Tutor that my students are fully comfortable and have fully understood each and every single Learning point.
If you did not fully understand the topic (which is perfectly fine! it happens to every student), then I am more than happy to go back over the content.
I can also help with ways in memorising certain facts/concepts as some can be quite hard to remember.
What I expect From My Students
I expect my students to Follow-up on work that is set for them.
This is essential in ensuring all the information learnt is retained.
This would consist of videos/notes/Exam questions which I have put together and is related to the topic we covered/similar topics.
As part of the preparation, I will have questions ready for you to use as a base for what our next topic is about.
I hope to encourage you to work off these questions by researching the topic more prior to our session.
I am a firm believer in keeping my students engaged not only in our sessions but also outside of our sessions.
Preparation for sessions has helped my students become more productive and consistent throughout the week- consistency is an important factor in having optimal Exam performance.
It has also helped my sessions become more interactive because naturally, my students have more questions to ask at the start of our session.
This has helped us work at a faster rate and so finish topics in advance of the exams.
Feedback and Practise
As a tutor, I strive to test you on past exam papers so that your revision is even more focused and accurate.
We will be doing this regularly throughout the year and more frequently just before your exams.
With my students in the past and presence, this has helped further develop their exam technique and overall their confidence when it comes to going into an exam.
I always give my students regular feedback on how they are performing and what they need to work on.
I do this in a timely fashion so that my students are confident with all topics in advance of their exams.
My Goal
Ultimately, these techniques are ones which I have learnt to adopt through my evidence-based approach to learning.
Evidence comes from my own academic experience as well as the experience of my students and colleagues.
These learning approaches have played huge roles in helping me attain the grades I have over the years, and very importantly, it has also helped my students/colleagues attain fantastic grades. I hope to work with you too!
